- Amex GBT manifesto urges the UK government to support scaling sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
- Demand for recognition of ‘book and claim’ programs to enable corporate investment in SAF.
American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT) has issued a manifesto urging the next UK government to support scaling sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). They demand that ‘book and claim’ programs recognise SAF, enabling long-term investment from corporate aviation consumers.
Amex GBT President Andrew Crawley emphasised businesses’ role in kickstarting the market by procuring SAF through book and claim programs. The manifesto coincided with a roundtable discussion on SAF scaling hosted by Amex GBT and BritishAmerican Business.
The event, chaired by aviation minister Anthony Browne, addressed recognising books and claims for SAF. According to the manifesto, it stresses the need for clear aviation investment standards for corporate aviation consumers.
It also calls on the government to enable and encourage SAF production and use while supporting research and development for different types of SAF. Amex GBT emphasises the aviation sector’s importance in renewable fuel production due to its difficulty in electrification.
The manifesto highlights the need for 25% to 30% of annual renewable fuel production capacity for SAF by 2030 to meet aviation’s 2050 net-zero target. Crawley underscores that ongoing talks between industry stakeholders and the government are crucial for hitting the net-zero target.
Browne acknowledges aviation’s role in combatting climate change and emphasises collaboration with the private sector to unlock investment in SAF production. BritishAmerican Business CEO Duncan Edwards stresses the urgency of scaling SAF.
To meet net-zero goals and calls for collaboration across government and business sectors.
