TotalEnergies has revealed plans to develop a 25-MW/75-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in western Belgium.
Belgian Energy Minister Tinne Van der Straeten made known the plans for the new scheme during a visit to TotalEnergies’ battery at its Antwerp refinery.
Also, the TotalEnergies depot in Feluy Hainaut province will be the installation station for the new BESS. The battery storage system will consist of 40 Intensium Max High Energy lithium-ion containers.
The hardware will be supplied by the company’s battery subsidiary, Saft.
TotalEnergies’s two BESS projects in Belgium represent a combined investment of almost EUR 70 million (USD 75.9m).
Furthermore, the systems will provide flexible services and help solve grid congestion issues. Olivier Jouny, senior vice president of Integrated Power at TotalEnergies, said, “These projects are fully in line with our integrated development strategy for electricity, not just in Belgium, but globally.”
