Starsight Energy and West Africa Container Terminal (WACT) have recently signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for 1.2 gigawatts per hour (GWh) of solar power at Onne Port, Rivers State. The agreement diversifies Starsight’s energy supply while harnessing solar energy resources. This development follows the instalment of a four-lane in-gate facility at WACT’s Onne Port in April 2024.
PPA details
Under the PPA, Starsight Energy will deliver 1.2GWh of solar green energy to WACT over 15 years. This green energy will cover approximately 30 per cent of the total terminal consumption. This shows its commitment to leading Eastern ports’ energy transition journey in alignment with APM Terminals’ overall strategy of decarbonizing its operations worldwide.
It involves installing a 1092kWp solar-only system, which will be executed via a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The project impact will substantially reduce WACT’s carbon footprint/CO2 emissions by circa 15 million Kg over the contract tenor.
