- President Tinubu bans petrol-dependent vehicles for the Federal Executive Council (FEC), mandating CNG vehicles.
- The directive aims to enhance energy security and efficiency and reduce costs through cleaner energy.
President Bola Tinubu has banned purchasing petrol-dependent vehicles for the Federal Executive Council (FEC). Instead, all government ministries, departments, and agencies must buy Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles. On May 13, 2024, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, confirmed the directive.
He emphasised President Tinubu’s focus on energy security, efficiency, and reducing fuel costs. “This decision supports Nigeria’s shift to cleaner energy sources, CNG vehicles emit less and cost less,” Ngelale said.
In a meeting with FEC members at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, President Tinubu stressed his commitment to energy reforms. “This nation won’t progress if we stay stagnant. We have the resolve to implement CNG adoption nationwide. Public officials must lead by example. When we show seriousness, Nigerians will follow,” Tinubu stated.
Ngelale explained that any FEC memos requesting petrol-dependent vehicles will face rejection. Council members must seek CNG-compliant cars instead. Ngelale concluded, “The President remains committed to using the nation’s gas potential, reducing transportation costs, and improving Nigerians’ living standards.”
