Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria Limited has called for more vital collaboration in clean and renewable energy initiatives. The bank stated this while hosting its esteemed clients at the maiden ‘Sustainability Forum’ in Lagos.
Over 100 of the bank’s corporate clients within the manufacturing, production, and services industry attended the programme.
Speaking on the theme “Clean and Renewable Energy Initiatives – Driving Development through Sustainable Financing, the Dean of Lagos Business School, Professor Chris Ogbechie, said he cannot overemphasise the role of collaboration between organisations to drive a shared sustainability agenda.
Ogbechie, who is also the Founding Director of the School’s Sustainability Centre, said that their contributions are integral to fostering economic development and achieving some of the social development goals in Nigeria.
In his presentation, he stressed the importance of local and international collaboration between players in financing clean energy initiatives in Nigeria. He said, “Multilateral development banks and developed countries can provide loans, grants, and technical expertise.
“Domestic financial institutions like banks, pension funds, and insurance companies can play a role, too. Banks can offer green bonds and climate-focused loans, while pension funds and insurance companies can invest in clean energy projects for their long-term benefits. A lot can be achieved together to do business ethically and sustainably.”
On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of the Bank, Dalu Ajene, stressed the firm’s belief in sustainability for its business, community, nation, continent, and the planet’s survival amid the pressing need to reduce carbon emissions and transition to cleaner energy sources.
He reiterated Standard Chartered’s commitment to driving change locally, globally, and in all aspects of its operations through growing clean and renewable energy in Nigeria.
