- AYAPD will block TCN Headquarters in Abuja on May 24, 2024, if outages persist.
- They seek transparency, accountability, and improved power infrastructure.
- Sister organisations nationwide will join the protest.
The Association of Young Adults for Positive Development (AYAPD) has voiced frustration over Nigeria’s persistent power outages. In a statement on Sunday, AYAPD criticised the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for failing to resolve the power crisis despite government promises.
Secretary James Ishaku signed the statement, highlighting the impact of unreliable electricity on daily life and economic development. AYAPD noted that citizens have lost faith in TCN’s ability to provide solutions, prompting the group to take action.
AYAPD plans to block all entrances to the TCN National Headquarters in Abuja on May 24, 2024, if the power situation does not improve. They demand transparency, accountability, and immediate action from TCN and the government to enhance power infrastructure and ensure reliable electricity for all Nigerians.
The statement stressed that AYAPD does not stand alone, with sister organisations ready to join the protest if necessary.
“We express deep concern about ongoing power problems and TCN’s inefficiency. Nigerians experience daily power outages,” the statement read.
“If poor power supply continues, we will block all entrances to TCN’s Abuja office on May 24, 2024. We demand transparency, accountability, and action to improve power infrastructure and ensure reliable electricity. Our sister organisations stand with us and will join if needed.
“We aim to make TCN prioritise people’s needs and find sustainable power solutions. It’s time for the government to act decisively for citizens’ welfare.”
The threat comes amid widespread power outages causing economic losses. The Ministry of Power plans to meet with stakeholders next week to discuss solutions. Nigerians await concrete steps to resolve the crisis and improve electricity supply.
