SBS has finalised a 10-year agreement with Zen Energy to procure renewable electricity from the 226.8-MW Collector wind farm in New South Wales. This strategic move makes SBS the pioneering Australian media organisation to fully transition to renewable energy for its operations in New South Wales and Victoria during the fiscal year 2023/2024.
The power purchase agreement (PPA) ensures that SBS will receive electricity and Large-scale Generation Certificates (LGCs) from the Collector Wind Park. This wind farm, which began operations in 2022, features 54 turbines and is owned by Thai Ratch Group PCL. Earlier this year, Thai Ratch Group committed to supplying Zen Energy with 6% of the wind farm’s electricity output and LGCs for ten years.
This transition aligns with SBS’s broader sustainability goals, particularly its ambition to achieve net zero emissions across all scopes (Scope 1, 2, and 3) by 2045. The Collector Wind Park generates around 528 GWh of electricity annually. In addition to SBS, other major entities, including Infigen Energy and ALDI Foods Pty Ltd, have secured contracts for portions of the wind farm’s electricity.
The agreement underscores a growing trend among Australian corporations to embrace sustainable energy solutions. By committing to renewable energy, SBS reduces its carbon footprint and sets a precedent for other media and corporate organisations.
