The Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) has launched an initiative to connect 951 households with natural gas this fiscal year.
The project will connect 451 households in Lindi and another 500 households in Mkuranga District in the Coast Region to access this essential clean energy source.
TPDC Community Development Officer Mr Ally Mluge said yesterday that the project, once completed, will increase the number of households connected to natural gas usage to 2451 countrywide.
“We [TPDC] are currently surveying rolling out the project,” Mr Mluge said.

The National Clean Cooking Strategy (2024- 2034) aims to ensure that 80 per cent of Tanzanians use clean cooking energy by 2034.
Additionally, Mr Mluge mentioned that TPDC plans to launch another project to expand natural gas connections to more households in Mtwara and has outlined strategic plans to distribute natural gas to other regions.
A key component of these plans is the establishment of the first integrated Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) filling station along Sam Nujoma Road in Dar es Salaam.
This station is expected to supply gas to residential areas, refill vehicles, and industrial facilities across the country’s largest commercial city, Dar es Salaam. One of the most crucial projects to ensure widespread access to natural gas is the CNG filling station on Sam Nujoma Road.
