Enugu State and ESUT Pursue German Energy Collaboration

Enugu State and the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) are exploring opportunities for collaboration with the German government in sustainable energy, environment, education, and business. This was highlighted during a public lecture at ESUT on “German-Nigerian Cooperation in the Global Energy Transition,” delivered by Weert Borner, the German Consul General.

At the event, Borner encouraged the people of Enugu State to consider alternative energy sources, emphasising the potential of wind, solar, and green energy. The Governor of Enugu State, represented by Secretary to the State Government Chidiebere Onyia, expressed the state’s interest in partnering with Germany to leverage these opportunities.

Okechukwu Oji, Chairman of the planning committee, noted that the lecture opened new avenues for collaboration between Enugu State and Germany. Borner’s interest in visiting Enugu to explore the state’s resources, particularly in the energy, environment, education, and business sectors, was highlighted.

The lecture also provided valuable insights for ESUT. According to Oji, the university looks forward to partnerships in education, scholarship, and socio-cultural exchanges. ESUT is enthusiastic about integrating these new perspectives into its academic and research programs, focusing on sustainable energy and environmental innovation.

Chile Anibeze, Director of Academic Planning at ESUT, remarked that the lecture offered crucial insights into alternative energy sources and sustainable practices. He emphasised the university’s intent to develop projects based on these insights to enhance its research and practical applications in energy transition.

Emeka Nzeh, Director of Research and Innovation at ESUT, highlighted the potential for novel research opportunities and exchanges with Germany. He praised Borner’s visit as a significant boost to the university’s research capabilities in energy and environmental fields.

The engagement underscores a promising future for collaboration between Enugu State, ESUT, and German partners, which aims to advance sustainable development and educational excellence.
