SunSource Energy, a solar subsidiary of Dutch off-grid energy distributor SHV Energy, has commissioned a 21MWp solar power plant in India’s Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu, marking its entry into the state.

The project covers an area of 50ac (202,343sqm) and will generate approximately 760 million kWh of clean energy, with the potential to offset up to 700 million kg of CO2 emissions over its technical lifespan.

SunSource is partnering with leading commercial and industrial companies to make the most of the plant’s power output capacity.

Also, Santanu Guha, CEO of SunSource Energy, said: “We are pleased to commission our first plant in Tamil Nadu, one of the leading states for renewable energy in India. With Tamil Nadu playing host to various industries, including automobile, IT&ITES, textiles, manufacturing, etc., this project is just the beginning for us in the state. We foresee planning several new projects for C&I customers and helping them in their energy transition journey.”

Ajay Sanghi, CEO of SuperGas, which has partnered on the project, commented: “By partnering with SunSource Energy to procure solar power for our Tuticorin Terminal, we not only reduce carbon emissions at the terminal – but equally as important – increase cost efficiencies. Likewise, this ensures we can continue to provide affordable, cleaner energy access to consumers and businesses and help drive the energy transition.”

Furthermore, SunSource is present across key states in India with a portfolio of 500MWp of solar PV assets under contract and development. It provides solar solutions to customers in industrial sectors, including data centres, consumer products, metals and mining, automotive, chemical, cement, healthcare and pharmaceutical.
