Photon Energy Hits 100 Solar Plants with New 7.5 MWp Facility in Romania

  • Photon Energy commissions a 7.5 MWp solar plant in Romania, raising its total to 100 installations.
  • The Făget 3 plant will generate 11.1 GWh annually, contributing 7.9% of the company’s 2023 production.
  • Another 3.2 MWp plant in Sărulești will push Photon Energy’s IPP portfolio to 143.5 MWp by year-end.

Photon Energy has completed a 7.5 MWp photovoltaic plant near Făget in Timiș County, Romania, increasing its portfolio to 100 operational plants. This achievement marks a significant step in the company’s European expansion.

The Făget 3 plant, now the largest in Photon Energy’s Independent Power Producer (IPP) portfolio, will generate 11.1 GWh of electricity annually, representing 7.9% of the company’s total 2023 production. Photon Energy will feed this clean energy into the Rețele Electric Banat grid without relying on government support or power purchase agreements.

The plant covers 9.1 hectares and uses 12,216 bifacial photovoltaic modules mounted on single-axis trackers. With this project, Photon Energy’s total capacity in Romania is 14.6 MWp across three plants.

CEO Georg Hotar highlighted the significance of this growth, stating, “This new plant is a major addition to our portfolio and stands as our largest project to date.”

The company expects the project to generate €2.5 million in additional income in Q3 2024. This boost will enhance Photon Energy’s financial position, giving it more flexibility for future investments.

Photon Energy plans to commission another 3.2 MWp plant in Sărulești, Romania, by the end of 2024, bringing its IPP portfolio to 143.5 MWp.

The company offers a comprehensive suite of services, including project development, engineering, procurement, construction (EPC), and photovoltaic plant operation and maintenance (O&M). It also delivers rooftop solar installations for commercial and industrial clients, strengthening its position in the European renewable energy sector.

Photon Energy continues to drive large-scale projects, reinforcing its commitment to the energy transition. Its expansion in Romania aligns with the growing demand for renewable energy, supporting Europe’s push for decarbonisation.

This latest development underscores Photon Energy’s role as a critical player in the European renewable energy landscape.
