Sungrow Fuels Brazil’s Renewable Future with 902 MW Solar Plant

  • Sungrow will supply equipment for Brazil’s 902 MWp Vista Alegre solar plant, which will power one million homes by 2025.
  • The project will use Sungrow’s 1+X modular inverter technology, optimising flexibility, efficiency, and maintenance.
  • The plant will generate 2 TWh annually, reducing CO₂ emissions by 154,000 tons and supporting Brazil’s energy transition.

Sungrow, a global leader in solar inverter and energy storage, will supply advanced equipment for a major solar project in Brazil. The Vista Alegre solar plant in Minas Gerais will reach a capacity of 902 MWp (778 MWac) and plans to start operations by 2025. It will generate two terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity annually, providing clean energy to about one million households.

Sungrow’s 1+X inverter technology, known for its flexibility and efficiency, will play a vital role in the project. Each base module delivers 1.1 MW; connecting eight units allows the system to expand to 8.8 MW. This modular design simplifies maintenance and maximises energy production through individual maximum power point tracking (MPPT) for each module.

Sungrow will deliver 75 inverters with 8.8 MW capacity and 18 additional units at 6.6 MW. The company will also supply power transformers, medium-voltage switchgear, and auxiliary systems, all housed in 40-foot containers. This streamlined installation process ensures reliable operations and efficiency.

The company will provide cold and hot commissioning services and operations and maintenance (O&M) training to ensure optimal performance. This hands-on approach ensures smooth operations as the plant connects to the grid.

The Vista Alegre project aims to cut around 154,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually. Generating clean energy will help reduce Brazil’s carbon footprint while strengthening energy security.

Ada Li, Vice President of Sungrow Americas, emphasises Brazil’s vast solar potential and rapid growth in renewable energy. She notes that the project highlights Sungrow’s commitment to delivering large-scale clean energy solutions worldwide.

Brazil remains a crucial global renewable energy market with abundant solar resources. The Vista Alegre plant will support the country’s energy transition, meeting rising demand and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

In conclusion, Sungrow’s involvement in the Vista Alegre project is significant in Brazil’s renewable energy development. The company’s advanced equipment and services will drive sustainable energy production and support global efforts to address climate change. This project delivers environmental benefits while contributing to Brazil’s energy self-sufficiency and long-term sustainability.
