- India and the UAE have signed a long-term agreement for ADNOC to supply India with one million metric tonnes of natural gas annually, enhancing bilateral energy cooperation.
- India’s Minister of Petroleum, Hardeep Puri, highlighted the growing role of AI in the energy sector, emphasizing its potential to transform energy production and management.
Shri Hardeep S. Puri, India’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, highlighted the growing energy cooperation between India and the UAE during his visit to the 40th Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC 2024).
Speaking to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Puri underscored the UAE’s pivotal role in the global energy sector, noting its leadership in energy production and commitment to advancing the energy transition.
Puri praised the UAE’s efforts in green hydrogen production and its focus on securing critical minerals, positioning the country as a key player in the shift toward sustainable energy. He also acknowledged the UAE’s diversified energy mix, which he described as essential to meeting the world’s evolving energy needs.
The Minister emphasised the strong and growing economic ties between India and the UAE, particularly in the energy sector. This was reflected in the recent signing of a long-term agreement between India and the UAE’s state-owned energy giant ADNOC.
Under this agreement, ADNOC will supply India with one million metric tonnes of natural gas annually. The gas will be delivered via the Indian Oil Corporation Limited’s ports, which will significantly enhance energy trade between the two nations.
With India’s rising natural gas consumption, Puri outlined the country’s ambition to increase the share of natural gas in its energy mix from 6% to 15% by the end of next year. He pointed out that the growing collaboration with the UAE presents vast opportunities for both nations to deepen their energy partnership and explore new areas of cooperation.
The Indian Minister also touched on the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the energy sector. He described AI as a “game-changer” that is already being integrated across multiple sectors in India, including energy. According to Puri, AI technologies are reshaping how energy challenges are addressed, offering more efficient and innovative solutions to meet global demand.
Reflecting on India’s prominent presence at ADIPEC 2024, Puri noted that the exhibition serves as a crucial platform for knowledge exchange, business discussions, and deal signing that will help shape the future of the global energy landscape.
He expressed optimism that the ongoing collaboration between Indian and UAE energy companies would foster new opportunities and contribute to the growth of both nations’ energy sectors.
