  • CHN Energy has launched China’s first 1GW floating offshore solar park near Dongying, generating 1.78 billion kWh annually and cutting 1.441 million tons of CO₂ emissions.
  • The project uses fixed steel foundations to withstand marine conditions, enhancing offshore solar efficiency and durability.
  • Integrating aquaculture with energy production, the park adds 27 million yuan in yearly revenue, maximising offshore spaces’ use for economic and ecological benefits.

CHN Energy has unveiled China’s first 1-gigawatt (GW) floating offshore solar park near Dongying, Shandong Province, marking a critical step in the country’s clean energy transition.

The solar park will generate 1.78 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually, cutting coal consumption by 594,500 tons. It also reduces carbon emissions by 1.441 million tons annually, aligning with China’s aggressive climate goals to lower fossil fuel use.

Built with fixed steel foundations, the park withstands harsh marine conditions, enhancing the durability and efficiency of offshore solar power generation. This technological innovation represents a significant leap forward in renewable energy.

Located off Dongying City’s coast, the project boosts China’s drive to diversify its energy mix. It highlights the country’s leadership in renewable energy and demonstrates its ability to integrate solar power into challenging marine environments.

In addition to producing electricity, the park combines solar energy with aquaculture, adding an estimated 27 million yuan in annual revenue. This dual-use approach maximises the economic benefits of offshore infrastructure while supporting sustainable marine resource use.

CHN Energy designed the project to optimise maritime spaces. The initiative shows how renewable energy solutions can deliver ecological and economic advantages. This model of integrating aquaculture and solar power could drive the future of offshore energy development worldwide.

The floating solar park supports China’s long-term clean energy goals by reducing reliance on coal and lowering emissions. It is critical in the country’s efforts to reach carbon neutrality.

The fixed steel foundations allow the solar panels to endure rough weather and marine conditions, providing a reliable source of renewable energy from the sea. This technological breakthrough strengthens China’s capabilities in offshore solar technology.

The park’s design, which integrates aquaculture, shows how efficiently offshore spaces can be used. The project adds value to the energy and marine sectors by combining renewable energy with sustainable marine practices.

This 1GW floating solar park advances China’s efforts to strengthen its renewable energy portfolio. It signals a shift toward cleaner, more sustainable energy solutions that reduce environmental impact and bolster energy security.

CHN Energy’s achievement reinforces China’s status as a global leader in renewable energy innovation. The success of this project opens doors for future offshore solar installations, providing a model for other countries to replicate.

With its innovative design and 1GW capacity, the Dongying Solar Park demonstrates China’s commitment to advancing solar energy technology. The project reflects the country’s resolve to meet its climate targets while reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

Integrating aquaculture and energy production marks a new chapter in the evolution of renewable energy infrastructure. This project could set the stage for future developments in offshore solar energy globally.
