Hydrexia and WEDSB Join Forces for Malaysia’s Hydrogen Future

  • Hydrexia and WEDSB partner to develop hydrogen infrastructure in Malaysia, supported by the Selangor state government.
  • The collaboration focuses on hydrogen production, storage, and distribution using Hydrexia’s magnesium-based storage technology.
  • The SHORE initiative will unfold in four phases, with the first phase set to begin soon, aiming for completion by 2040.

Hydrexia and WEDSB join forces to accelerate hydrogen development in Malaysia with an ambitious plan supported by the Selangor government, leveraging innovative technologies for sustainable energy transition.

Hydrogen development as a renewable energy source is taking a new turn in Malaysia thanks to a strategic partnership between Hydrexia and SDN. BHD, a subsidiary of Hydrexia Holding Limited, and Worldwide Energy Development SDN BHD (WEDSB), a company specialising in renewable energy.

The two companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to support the state of Selangor’s government plans under the Selangor Hydrogen-Oriented Resources (SHORE) initiative.

This initiative, designed in four phases and expected to be completed by 2040, highlights the technological and industrial collaboration between Hydrexia and WEDSB. They aim to establish a complete hydrogen production, transport, storage, and distribution infrastructure, leveraging Hydrexia’s magnesium-based solid-state hydrogen storage technology.

As part of this partnership, Hydrexia and WEDSB will collaborate with several local stakeholders, including the Institute of Sustainable Energy and the AAIBE Chair of Renewable Energy at Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) and UNI10 Energy SDN BHD (UESB), a Malaysian engineering firm. These collaborations will involve in-depth research and activities in engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of hydrogen-dedicated infrastructure.

This project is part of a broader strategy to position Selangor as a key player in Southeast Asia’s energy transition. Integrating advanced technologies for hydrogen storage and purification demonstrates Hydrexia’s commitment to offering differentiated solutions across industrial value chains.

Since the beginning of 2024, Hydrexia has significantly expanded its activities in Malaysia, establishing strategic partnerships and securing several contracts. According to George Gan, managing director of Hydrexia Southeast Asia, the collaboration with WEDSB is an essential milestone for the company. “We are honoured to contribute to this major initiative in partnership with WEDSB and to participate in Malaysia’s energy transformation,” Gan stated.

As a provider of technology solutions across industrial value chains, Hydrexia is gaining increasing recognition for its technologies, particularly in hydrogen purification, storage, and distribution. The partnership with WEDSB reflects the company’s ability to adapt and innovate in a growing market.

The initial phase of the SHORE initiative is expected to start soon, making this project a crucial step in Selangor and Malaysia’s sustainable energy roadmap.
