The Nigerian Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting hydrogen as a clean energy source, recognising its significant potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, enhance energy efficiency, and drive economic growth.
Amb. Nicholas Ella, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, announced this in a statement on Thursday, November 21, 2024. He highlighted the importance that President Bola Tinubu’s administration places on advancing clean energy initiatives in the country.
Ella further revealed that Nigeria will host its inaugural international hydrogen conference at the State House Banquet Hall in Aso Villa, Abuja, from November 26 to 28, 2024. The event, titled “Building a Hydrogen Economy for Nigeria,” aims to unlock the vast potential of hydrogen to power Nigeria’s future energy needs and build a more resilient energy sector.
The conference, organised in collaboration with the Foundation for Sustainable Social Responsibility in Emerging Africa (FOSSREA), seeks to promote hydrogen as a sustainable energy solution. It will focus on reducing emissions, creating jobs, and stimulating economic growth.
Over 1,000 participants are expected, including public and private sector investors from Africa, Europe, Asia, and the USA. The event will facilitate partnerships aimed at shaping Nigeria’s energy future.
Key highlights of the conference will include cutting-edge research, innovative technologies, expert insights on investment opportunities, exhibitions showcasing the latest trends, and networking sessions with policymakers, industry leaders, and decision-makers.
Discussions will cover the production of blue and green hydrogen, investment opportunities, supply chain development, policy frameworks, technology transfer, infrastructure development, and strategies to unlock Nigeria’s hydrogen potential.
The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, will serve as the chief host of the conference. The Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Industry, Trade, and Investment are also expected to attend. Key figures from the Ministry, including directors and CEOs from agencies under its supervision, will also participate in the event.
