- Oman opens the qualification process for the 280 MW Al Kamil Wal Wafi solar project, driving its clean energy transition.
- The project aligns with Oman’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2050 and reduces reliance on fossil fuels.
- Public-private partnerships (PPP) will play a key role, with PWP overseeing the tender and contract process for private sector involvement.
The Sultanate of Oman advances its clean energy agenda by launching the Al Kamil Wal Wafi solar project qualification process. Nama Power and Water Procurement (PWP) initiated this 280-megawatt (MW) solar project as part of the country’s broader energy diversification drive.
Oman plans to reach carbon neutrality by 2050, and this solar project fits that vision. The Al Kamil Wal Wafi photovoltaic solar plant marks the country’s fourth solar initiative in the Al Kamil Wal Wafi region. The project will significantly boost renewable energy production in Oman. PWP will oversee the project, manage tenders, and sign contracts with private sector partners.
This solar project will reduce Oman’s reliance on fossil fuels while addressing the country’s increasing electricity demand. The new energy capacity will also support the country’s climate goals under the Paris Agreement, contributing to the reduction of its environmental impact.
Oman emphasises public-private partnerships (PPP) in its energy strategy. The government accelerates the adoption of solar technologies and other renewable energy sources through collaborations with private investors. PWP plays a crucial role in procuring electricity and water production capacities. It also handles sales of the generated electricity in line with the country’s electricity and water sector regulations.
The qualification process for the Al Kamil Wal Wafi project has opened, allowing interested developers to submit proposals. Developers can access technical documents, financial requirements, and eligibility criteria for submitting bids. This process will enable the selection of developers capable of bringing the project to life.
The Al Kamil Wal Wafi solar project will contribute significantly to Oman’s renewable energy infrastructure. Earlier solar projects, such as the Ibri II solar plant, have already proven that renewable energy can meet growing demand while maintaining environmental standards.
Through this and other renewable projects, Oman seeks to attract more foreign investment into its energy sector. The country aims to strengthen its position as a leading renewable energy player in the Gulf region by expanding solar energy capacity.
PWP actively manages all aspects of the Al Kamil Wal Wafi project. This includes handling the procurement process, overseeing tenders, and finalising contracts with private firms. The project will diversify Oman’s energy mix and advance its goal of reducing fossil fuel dependence.
This initiative reflects Oman’s strong commitment to diversifying energy sources and supporting its long-term sustainability goals. The Al Kamil Wal Wafi project will help meet Oman’s growing electricity demand and enhance the country’s contribution to global climate change efforts. Through this project, Oman continues to solidify its role as a key player in the Gulf’s renewable energy sector.
