Swiss renewable energy producer and trader Axpo Holding AG inaugurates its first large-scale battery storage project in Sweden. The 20-MW/20-MWh facility in Landskrona, the southern part of the country, marks a significant milestone in Axpo’s battery business expansion.
Axpo’s Group Head of Batteries and Hybrid Systems, Frank Amend, stated, “We will continue expanding our storage activities over the next few years; large storage capacities are crucial for the energy transition. “The lithium-ion-based battery storage plant operates with Landskrona Energi, a local energy supplier owned by the city, helping balance the power supply in the region.
Torkild Strandberg, chairman of the town of Landskrona’s municipal board, highlights the need for new production and grid reinforcement measures. Electricity consumption in Sweden is projected to rise significantly. This emphasises the importance of sustainable energy solutions in meeting evolving energy demands.
