Abengoa Completes Construction of Three Solar Troughs for Dubai Solar Mega-Project

  • Abengoa has completed the construction of three parabolic through plants.
  • The through will collect solar energy for the CSP Plant.
  • The project is part of Phase IV of the 3GW Mohammed bid Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.

Spanish engineering and renewables group Abengoa has announced that it has completed the construction of three 200MW parabolic through plants in Dubai. The project is part of the fourth phase of the Mohammed bid Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park mega-project in the emirate. The three plants now have 6,360 parabolic trough collectors. Phase IV EPC contractor, Shanghai Electric Group, contracted the Spanish company to provide technology, design, engineering and construction of the parabolic trough plants.

A 100-W molten salt central receiver tower plant with a thermal storage capacity of 13.5 hours is currently under construction. When finished, it will complete the CSP portion of phase IV. In addition, a 250MW solar PV farm will also complement the CSP plant. The fourth phase is a 950MW project owned by the Noor Energy I consortium, which comprises ACWA Power, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), and China’s Silk Road Fund.
