- NPCC has been awarded the 640-MW Yunlin wind farm off Taiwan’s coast contract

The National Petroleum Construction Company(NPCC) Abu Dhabi has been awarded a contract to install the remaining monopiles for wind turbine frames for the 640-MW Yunlin wind farm off Taiwan’s coast.
The contract, valued at USD 98.8 million (EUR 91.6 million), was given by Yunneng Wind Power Co. Ltd, the company in charge of the project’s development.
After Sapura Energy Berhad announced its withdrawal from the project in February, NPCC received the order. Following a significant delay in the project, the Malaysia-based contractor decided to cancel the order to install monopiles at the offshore wind farm. The oil and gas services company claims this was caused by unresolved technical and operational issues not attributable to Sapura Energy.
The Yunlin offshore wind farm covers an area of 82 square kilometres in the Taiwan Strait (31.66 sq mi). Up to 80 wind turbines will generate electricity supplied to the Taiwanese power grid through two onshore substations in Taixi and Sihu.
In November of last year, the first turbine was connected to the grid, but the project’s completion has been pushed back three years to September 2023.
