The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) plans to introduce environment-friendly transport systems in Abuja to make the capital a green city. The FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, stated this during a visit by the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC). The minister noted that the Administration has already begun plans to commence utilising electric vehicles.
Through a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Anthony Ogunleye, the minister stated that one of the administration’s long-term plans is to transform Abuja into one of the greenest cities in the country and that the adoption of electric vehicles is a vital part of the plan.
Teh minister stressed that the plan would include the ban of tricycles and motorcycles and the elimination of diesel-powered buses. The Director-General of the NADDC, Jelani Aliyu also discussed the recent Hyundai Kona, the first-ever electric vehicle assembled in Nigeria with a range of about 492km. He added that the increasing interest in EVs in the country had led the organisation to deploy solar charging stations in Sokoto, Lagos and Nsukka.
During the visit, Stallion Group of Companies also presented its proposed public transportation solutions for the city.
