African Clean Energy Developments (ACED) has secured a significant contract with Vestas for the Umsinde Emoyeni wind farm in the Western Cape of South Africa. This landmark agreement involves ACED acquiring 32 V163-4.5 MW wind turbines and a comprehensive 10-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement.

Sam Cook, ACED’s Project Manager overseeing procurement and construction, expressed enthusiasm about the ongoing collaboration: “Since the inception of South Africa’s wind energy sector in 2011, ACED has built a robust partnership with Vestas and African Infrastructure Investment Managers (AIIM). We are thrilled to continue working together to serve our off-taker, Sibanye Stillwater, our valued shareholders, and the local communities.”

Novani Ganess-Johnson, Managing Director for Vestas in South Africa, emphasised the transformative potential of Vestas’ cutting-edge technology: “ACED’s decision to trust our V163-4.5 MW wind turbines underscores their commitment to achieving stable energy output and ensuring the necessary business case certainty for their project. Vestas remains steadfast in our mission to contribute to South Africa’s energy landscape by delivering solutions prioritising reliability, affordability, and sustainability.”

The turbines are scheduled to be delivered in the first half of 2025, and commissioning is expected to commence by mid-2026. Vestas continues to lead the South African wind power market, with a cumulative capacity exceeding 1.5 GW, either installed or currently under construction. This latest venture reaffirms Vestas’ position as a pivotal player in advancing renewable energy infrastructure across the region, supporting economic growth, and promoting environmental stewardship.
