- ACWA Power Co. of Saudi Arabia has agreed to develop a green hydrogen plant around Tashkent.
- The second project will involve ACWA Power conducting a feasibility study to build a facility that can create 500,000 tonnes of green ammonia.
As part of an ambitious investment program in the Central Asian nation, ACWA Power Co. of Saudi Arabia has agreed to develop a green hydrogen plant close to the capital city of Tashkent and a green ammonia pilot facility.
With the nation’s Ministry of Energy and the state-owned chemicals firm Uzkimyosanoat, the corporation with headquarters in Riyadh, has signed heads of terms agreements. According to the agreement, ACWA Power will build a plant in Chirchiq that will start producing 3,000 tonnes of green hydrogen yearly at the end of 2024. To reduce the consumption of natural gas at the existing ammonia factory nearby, the hydrogen facility will be connected to it.
The second project will involve ACWA Power conducting a feasibility study to build a facility that can create 500,000 tonnes of green ammonia. By doing this, Uzbekistan’s annual natural gas usage would drop by 600 million cubic meters. The research ought to be finished by the end of 2024.
The most recent agreements follow three significant energy agreements that ACWA Power signed with the Uzbek government in August 2022, totalling USD 12 billion in investment. The projects include a 1.5 GW onshore wind project in Karakalpakstan and gas-to-power, wind, hydropower, and green hydrogen projects. A 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) between the massive wind project and the National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan was reached in December.
