- Adani Energy subsidiary has awarded Hitachi Energy and BHEL a major contract to build HVDC terminals for transmitting renewable energy.
- The 6 GW, 950 km transmission link will power approximately 60 million Indian households and support India’s renewable energy integration and decarbonisation goals.
Rajasthan Part I Power Transmission Limited, a subsidiary of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL), has awarded a significant contract to a Hitachi Energy and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) consortium.
This partnership will design and deliver high-voltage direct current (HVDC) terminals to efficiently transmit renewable energy from Rajasthan’s Bhadla region to Fatehpur’s industrial and transport hub in Uttar Pradesh, ensuring a sustainable power supply.
The HVDC link will carry 6 gigawatts (GW) of power over 950 kilometres. According to AESL, this can supply electricity to about 60 million homes in India.
AESL’s CEO, Kandarp Patel, said the project will help connect renewable energy to the national grid. “We are helping India move towards clean energy. We will use the latest technology to finish the project on time and reduce harm to the environment,” he said.
The terminals are part of India’s goal to set up 500 GW of renewable energy and interstate power transmission. The system will use 800 kilovolt (kV), 6 GW bi-pole and bi-directional HVDC terminals. These will move power from the renewable zone in Bhadla.
Niklas Persson, Managing Director at Hitachi Energy, said, “A strong HVDC system helps control power flow and keeps the grid stable. This is important for adding more renewable energy quickly. We are proud to join another major HVDC project in India.”
He also said that Hitachi’s HVDC technology will support a clean and reliable power system, helping India reach its energy goals in the near and distant future.
Hitachi Energy and BHEL will provide converter transformers, AC/DC control and protection, thyristor valves, 765 kV/400 kV grid connections, and other systems for the project.
In March, Adani Energy Solutions also signed an agreement to buy Mahan Transmission Limited (MTL). They signed this deal with REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL). MTL will move 1,230 megawatts of power from Adani Power Ltd.’s new 1,600 MW units in Mahan, Madhya Pradesh, into the state grid.
Earlier, AESL won a ₹2,800 crore power transmission project in Gujarat. The company will deliver this project in 36 months. It will provide clean energy for producing Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia in Mundra. This was AESL’s sixth project win in this financial year. The company’s total order book now stands at ₹57,561 crore.
