- Adnoc and IndianOil LNG deal secures one million tonnes annually for India over 15 years.
- By 2029, IndianOil becomes Adnoc’s largest LNG customer with 2.2 million tonnes each year.
The Adnoc and IndianOil LNG deal marks a major milestone in global energy relations. Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) has signed a 15-year contract to supply one million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) annually to Indian Oil Corporation (IndianOil). This agreement will not only enhance India’s energy security but also deepen bilateral economic cooperation between the UAE and India.
The LNG will come from Adnoc’s lower-carbon Ruwais LNG project in Al Ruwais Industrial City. Because the project is scheduled to begin operations in 2028, India can rely on long-term and stable fuel deliveries. Cargoes will be shipped directly to Indian ports, ensuring consistent supplies to meet the country’s expanding demand.
Adnoc stressed India’s importance as a strategic partner. The company explained that the Ruwais project combines cleaner energy solutions with reliable supply, thereby supporting sustainability goals alongside security needs.
The agreement positions IndianOil as Adnoc’s largest LNG customer by 2029. With supplies from Ruwais and Das Island, IndianOil’s total offtake will reach 2.2 million tonnes per year.
So far, international buyers have booked more than 8 million tonnes of Ruwais’ 9.6 million tonne annual capacity. This level of demand demonstrates confidence in Adnoc’s ability to deliver dependable supplies.
IndianOil officials welcomed the deal, calling it vital for securing India’s energy future. They also highlighted that the agreement reinforces UAE–India relations under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Consequently, it shows how trade frameworks support energy security.
Additionally, this deal builds on recent Adnoc Gas agreements with Indian companies. For instance, Hindustan Petroleum signed a 0.5 million tonne contract, while Gail India secured a ten-year arrangement. These moves demonstrate Adnoc’s growing role in India’s energy market.
Ultimately, the Adnoc and IndianOil LNG deal illustrates how strategic partnerships are reshaping global energy supply chains. By combining security with sustainability, both nations stand to benefit significantly.
