- ADY expands solar power use to reduce emissions and save energy.
- The initiative aligns with Azerbaijan’s national and global sustainability goals.
Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) is cutting carbon emissions through a growing commitment to renewable energy and sustainability. The ADY clean energy initiative highlights the company’s efforts to integrate solar power and green practices across its operations.
According to Azernews, solar panels have become a central part of ADY’s environmental strategy. In 2021, the company installed 307 panels at the Bilajari locomotive depot. The following year, 350 additional panels were added at the Ganja depot. Together, they generated 90,000 kilowatt-hours of green electricity in 2024.
As a result, ADY saved over 8,000 cubic metres of natural gas and prevented about 20,000 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions. These achievements demonstrate how the ADY clean energy initiative supports national and global sustainability goals.
Beyond renewable power, ADY continues to promote environmental responsibility in other areas. The company recycles paper waste, treats industrial water, and reuses it for maintenance purposes. It also organises regular tree-planting and community clean-up campaigns, helping to restore local ecosystems.
ADY carefully protects plants and wildlife during construction projects. Its environmental policies ensure full compliance with national and international ecological standards.
Transitioning towards cleaner energy also strengthens the company’s economic and operational efficiency. ADY is building a more resilient transport network by reducing fuel costs and dependency on traditional energy sources.
These actions reflect ADY’s ambition to modernise while supporting Azerbaijan’s broader clean energy goals. As global attention on climate change grows, the company’s renewable investments position it as a regional model for sustainable transport development.
With continuous innovation, responsible policies, and long-term vision, ADY proves that environmental progress and industrial growth can advance.
