- Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC) has successfully received vandalised electricity cables recovered through a coordinated operation by the FCT Police Command and other security agencies.
- The Distribution Company urges the public to take a stand against infrastructure sabotage, launching whistleblowing channels to help crack down on power theft and vandalism.
Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC) announced on Tuesday, March 4, that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, had recovered vandalised electricity cables. The FCT Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Operations, Ishaku Sharu, handed over the recovered cables to AEDC in a formal ceremony.
The recovery follows coordinated efforts to tackle power theft and vandalism in FCT and surrounding areas. AEDC’s Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Chijioke Okwuokenye commends the swift actions of the security forces, “We commend the FCT Police Command and other security operatives for their unwavering dedication to recovering these vandalised cables”.
Also, he emphasised that “Vandalism is not just a crime against AEDC—it is an attack on our communities, depriving homes, businesses, and critical services of power. AEDC will not relent in its fight against such criminal acts.”
Okwuokenye further highlighted the broader consequences of vandalism, urging collective action. He stressed that vandalism and power theft are crimes against the country’s progress, plunge communities into darkness, disrupt livelihoods, and impose heavy financial burdens on all.
To combat these issues, he disclosed that AEDC has launched multiple whistleblowing channels to encourage public involvement in anonymously reporting suspicious activities. Reiterating AEDC’s commitment to improving power supply reliability, Okwuokenye added, “We will continue to invest in infrastructure, strengthen security measures, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure uninterrupted electricity for our customers.”
This joint initiative reflects AEDC’s determination to protect national infrastructure, ensuring that communities across the FCT have reliable access to electricity while reducing the impact of criminal activities on the power assets.
