African Development Bank (AfDB) allocates $302.9 million for power projects in Mauritania and Mali. The funding includes $269.6 million for Mauritania and $33.3 million for Mali. With an $888 million investment, the project builds a 225 kV high-voltage line connecting Mali and Mauritania. It spans 1,500 km in three segments, with 2,000 km of integrated electricity distribution networks.
In AfDB’s Desert to Power program, two 50 MWp solar plants in Kiffa and Néma, Mauritania, will feed electricity into a new high-voltage line with 600 MW capacity. The interconnection project aims to bring electricity to 100,000 households, 80,000 in Mauritania and 20,000 in Mali. The initiative also fosters agricultural entrepreneurship and services, empowering youth and women in the regions.
