- The African Union has awarded the Kenyan Geothermal Development Corporation (GDC) a $14.5 million grant for the development of Baringo-Silali geothermal project.
- Each of the three sites on the Baringo-Silali geothermal project will house a 100MWe power plant.
The Kenyan government has been awarded a $14.5 million grant by the Geothermal Risk Mitigation Fund (GRMF) for the implementation of the Baringo-Silali geothermal project. The grant agreement was signed between the African Union, represented by the African Union Commission and the National Treasury of Kenya. The funds will go to the project developer, the Geothermal Development Corporation (GDC).

This grant will support a drilling and testing programme and the upgrade of infrastructure at the Paka geothermal site in the Rift Valley in western Kenya. The Baringo-Silali geothermal project will also cover two geothermal generation sites in Korosi and Silali.
GRMF had initially awarded a 1.9 billion Kenyan shillings (US$17.2 million) grant to GDC for the Baringo-Silali geothermal project in November 2019.
According to GDC, on each of the sites of the Baringo-Silali geothermal project, there will be a 100MWe power plant The three sites will generate a total of 300 MWe.
