- Akwa Ibom State Government receives a license to be a distribution company.
According to the Akwa Ibom State Government, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved its electricity distribution license application (NERC).
The decision was made in response to Ibom Utility Company’s request for permission to run an independent electricity distribution network to provide service in a few specific areas of the state.
Following a meeting with the Akwa Ibom State Government delegation led by the Secretary to State Government, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, the Commissioner for Power, Mr John James, and the Managing Director of Ibom Power, Engr. Mayen Etukudo, for the approval presentation, the NERC announced the approval via its Twitter page.
To allow Ibom Power Company Ltd. to integrate into the distribution network of Ibom Utility Company Limited, NERC also granted the application for a modification of the on-grid power generating licence.
The license was granted in response to Governor Udom Emmanuel’s aim to checkmate the subpar electricity distribution despite state government investment in the power industry.
A recently constructed 33/11KV, 2 X 15MVA injection sub-station is among the state government’s current investments in the power industry. Uyo, the state capital, is where it is located. A dedicated 33kv line from the Ibom Tropicana Entertainment Center will feed the state-owned Victor Attah International Airport with a reliable grid power supply through a 33/11KV, 2 X 15MVA substation.
