- Algeria is currently building two new solar panel manufacturing factories to increase its renewable energy capacity.
- The new factories will produce 260MWp of solar panels annually.
- This initiative will greatly help the Algerian governments policy of generating 22000MW of energy from renewable sources by 2027.
Algeria is looking to increase its renewable energy capacity and deployment. The North African country will soon commission two new solar manufacturing plants according to the Commissariat aux énergies renouvelables et à l’efficacité énergétique (Cerefe). According to Cerefe’s report, one factory being built by Milltech is under construction in the industrial zone of Boukherana, near Chelghoum El Aid and will begin operation before the end of the year. This factory, when completed, will supply 100MWp of solar panels per year. The second factory is under construction in Ouargla. This factory will have a capacity of 160 MWp of solar panels per year increasing Algeria’s solar panel manufacturing capacity by 260MWp annually.
In addition to these, another factory is currently being constructed in Algeria. This factory will produce solar panels and other equipment, notably the assembly structures for the modules. This project is a joint development between the Algerian company SPS (Système Panneaux Sandwichs) and Dubai based Qi-Energy.
The increased manufacturing capacity will greatly enhance the government’s energy policy which intends to generate about 27 per cent (22000MW) of the country’s energy from renewable sources by 2027.
