”All hands on deck” is a popular expression to describe when a group of persons are required to work together to achieve an aim. With the multitude of challenges around electricity supply in Nigeria, all value chains, stakeholders, investors, and the government need to work together.
A typical scenario of an all hands on deck expression can be seen with the action of the industrial firms in Tehran, Iran, to build power plants to aid electricity generation in the country.
Over thirteen (13) industrial firms agreed to have all hands on deck in tackling the current electricity crisis in the state, which has been on for over three (3) months crippling the country’s industrial and mining production plants.
The challenges of inadequate electricity supply in Nigeria have been ongoing for years. One would have thought that privatising the sector would rid the power sector of its many challenges, but it appears it has not.
Industries, businesses, and residential electricity consumers in the country have been plagued by inadequate provision of power and, as such, have had to deal with noisy diesel generators, expensive to maintain and pollute the environment.
In Iran, industry operators had a dialogue with the state’s electricity sector to figure out how to collaborate to mitigate their power deficiencies. Following the discourse, they agreed to provide more power plants to boost electricity generation.
The ”all hands on deck” approach can be employed in Nigeria to fix the ongoing challenges of poor electricity supply because it affects every sector of its economy.
