Amazon has announced 14 clean energy projects in Europe and North America.
- One of the projects is a 375MW solar plant in Canada.
- Amazon plans to utilise 100% renewable energy by 2025.
Amazon has announced 14 new renewable energy projects in North America and Europe, including Canada’s largest solar power plant. The 375MW, which will be located in Alberta, is expected to become operational next year. This new plant will increase Amazon’s clean energy generation in Canada to 1 million MWh annually. In addition, Amazon announced 11 projects in the US, including its first solar parks in Arkansas, Mississippi and Pennsylvania. These projects will bring Amazon’s US production capacity to over 6 GW.
In Spain, Amazon will add a fifth solar project. The 152 MW project will be completed in 2023 and will bring Amazon’s total production to over 520MW. In Finland, the company has unveiled a 52MW wind project near the west coast that is also expected to commence operations next year.
In total, Amazon’s clean energy generation capacity will exceed 10GW, which will supply its corporate offices, fulfilment centres and Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centres. Amazon says that it is the largest corporate buyer of renewable energy globally, plans to fully run all of its operations with clean energy by 2025.
