The fire was caused by an issue with solar panels.
- Second rooftop fire in Amazon Facility in two years.
- Infrared imaging can help identify hotspots.
The cause of a recent fire at the roof of an Amazon Warehouse in Perryville, Maryland, has been said to be an issue with the rooftop solar system. The fire was ruled accidental, with no injuries recorded.
The fire is estimated to have resulted in damages worth $500,000. This is the second rooftop solar fire to occur at an Amazon facility in two years following the fire at the roof of an Amazon facility in Fresno, California.
U.S. solar system fires have continually increased since 2015, from 25 to 56 in 2018. Experts believe that the use of regular infrared imaging of residential projects can reduce fires. Infrared imaging can identify hotspots, small instances of failure, and thermal events that can cause a fire outbreak.
