Amazon has announced the addition of 37 new renewable energy projects to its portfolio, including 26 new utility-scale solar projects and two-hybrid solar-plus-storage projects. The technology and logistics behemoth is adding 3.5 gigawatts to its renewable energy portfolio, which already stands at 12.2 gigawatts.
With two new hybrid plants in Arizona and California, the business has increased its investments in colocated solar-storage projects. In Arizona, 300MW of solar PV will be combined with 150MW of battery storage, while in California, 150MW of solar PV will be combined with 75MW of battery storage.
The two new projects will increase Amazon’s solar PV and energy storage capacity from 220 to 445 megawatts.
Andy Jassy, CEO of Amazon, said, “We now have 310 wind and solar projects across 19 countries and are working hard to power 100% of our business on renewable energy by 2025—five years ahead of our original target of 2030.”
