Amazon Uses Brookfield for 600 MW of Clean Power

  • Amazon Inc. to use 600MW of wind and solar from Brookfield Asset Management.
  • The output is intended for three Amazon facilities in the US, Arkansas, Illinois and others.

Amazon.com Inc.’s operations on three continents will be powered by wind and solar energy from more than 600 MW of capacity provided by the renewable energy division of Canada’s Brookfield Asset Management Inc.

According to Brookfield Asset Management, the US e-commerce behemoth will purchase electricity for its operations in Europe, North America, and India under an arrangement with Brookfield Renewable.

The 601.6 MW wind and solar park projects, which are anticipated to produce about 1,370 GWh annually, will supply the contracted power volumes. The output is intended for three Amazon facilities in the US, Arkansas, Illinois, and Mississippi, as well as for initiatives in Spain, Northern Ireland, Italy, and India. It is equivalent to the annual energy usage of more than 120,000 US houses.

The renewable off-take arrangement was made along a deal that will see Amazon Web Services (AWS) become the preferred cloud provider to Brookfield Asset Management.
