AMEA Power, a Dubai-based renewable energy company, announced that a 26.6MW solar project in Burkina Faso had reached a financial close. Zina Solaire, a wholly-owned subsidiary of AMEA Power, will construct the solar park in Zina, Mouhoun province. The plant will be able to generate enough electricity to cover the annual needs of around 43,000 people.
Under a public-private partnership framework, the project has a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with national utility Sonabel. In addition, it is being funded by the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund (EAIF), a member of the Private Infrastructure Development Group, and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), through the IFC-Canada Climate Change Program (PIDG).
According to Hussain Al Nowais, chairman of AMEA Power, the West African country plans to build over 500MW capacity by 2025.
