- AMEA and Xenel have completed a wind farm in Jordan.
- The farm is capable of powering 40,000 households annually.
- This is AMEA’s second completed clean energy project in the past two months.
UAE based renewable energy firm AMEA Power and Saudi company Xenel Industries via their joint venture, Abour Energy Company, have commissioned a 51.75MW wind farm in Tafila Governorate, Jordan. Both companies secured the project in the first round of Jordan’s renewables feed-in tariff (FiT) programme. The plant comprises 15 wind turbines supplied by Vestas.
The plant has commenced commercial operations on the 5th of July and is expected to meet the power needs of 40,000 Jordanian homes annually. Abour Energy Company will operate the facility for 20 years. The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) financed the project.
This is AMEA Power’s second operational renewable energy project in the past two months following the commissioning of the 50MW Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed solar PV plant in Togo.
Jordan has set a target of 30 per cent renewable sources in the energy mix by 2030.
