AMPYR Solar Secures Funding for 96 MWp Solar Farm in the Netherlands

  • AMPYR Solar Europe secures financial close for its 96 MWp solar project in Noordoostpolder. By June 2025, the project will power 30,000 homes and cut 36,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.
  • The solar farm, integrated with existing wind farms, will form part of an 850 MWp renewable energy complex, the largest in the Netherlands.

AMPYR Solar Europe finalises financing for its 96 MWp solar project in Noordoostpolder, Netherlands. The solar farm will power 30,000 homes and cut CO2 emissions by 36,000 tonnes annually. The company aims to begin operations by June 2025.

The project covers 65 hectares along a 3.9 km dyke near IJsselmeer. AMPYR Solar secured this project as the third solar cluster financed through Rabobank’s €200 million multi-project facility, following operational clusters in Echt-Susteren, Venray, and Voorne aan Zee.

The Noordoostpolder (NOP) farm features four separate installations but will operate as a single energy production site. The farm connects to the grid via a 33 kV line to a transformer station, ultimately connecting to TenneT’s high-voltage substation at Westermeerdijk.

This solar farm forms part of a broader renewable energy complex that integrates solar and wind power, with a combined capacity of 850 MWp. AMPYR Solar’s project is the largest solar installation beneath a wind farm in the Netherlands. Over 30 landowners, solar developers, and the wind farm operator worked together to overcome challenges in the region, ensuring the project’s success.

With this project, AMPYR Solar Europe boosts its total renewable energy capacity in the Netherlands to over 130 MWp. The company strengthens its role in advancing the country’s energy transition, aligning with national goals for cleaner energy.

The project showcases integrating renewable energy systems, combining solar and wind power to maximise efficiency. By blending different energy sources, AMPYR Solar demonstrates the potential for hybrid renewable energy solutions in large-scale developments.

The development also aligns with the Netherlands’ ambitious targets for reducing carbon emissions and increasing renewable energy production. AMPYR’s solar farm is crucial in helping the country achieve these targets.

Rabobank’s €200 million multi-project financing facility supports AMPYR Solar’s expansion, helping the company build more solar farms nationwide. Each new project strengthens the national grid and contributes to sustainability efforts.

AMPYR Solar’s financial closure of the Noordoostpolder solar farm marks another significant achievement in its portfolio. Backed by Rabobank and local partnerships, the company continues to push the boundaries of renewable energy production in the Netherlands.

The project also benefits the local area economically, involving landowners, developers, and local authorities. AMPYR Solar’s close collaboration with local stakeholders ensured broad community engagement and support throughout the development.

Once operational, the NOP solar farm will set a benchmark for future renewable energy projects, especially those integrating multiple energy sources. It will help solidify solar power’s role in the Netherlands’ evolving energy landscape and support the region’s long-term sustainability goals.
