- Apple plans to transition 175 suppliers to clean energy.
- As part of its Power for Impact initiative, the company plans to deploy a solar system for a PHC in Nigeria.
Ahead of COP26, Apple has announced plans to meet its climate targets globally. Part of the company’s targets includes transitioning 175 of its suppliers to clean energy via 9GW of clean energy. The company estimates that these installations will avoid over 18 million metric tons of CO2 emissions yearly. Currently, 19 suppliers in the US and Europe are already part of Apple’s Supplier Clean Energy Program. In China, India, Japan, and South Korea, 81 suppliers in total have joined the programme.
The company has established a Power for Impact initiative announcing 10 new projects to bring clean energy solutions to unserved and underserved communities around the world. For example, in South Africa, Apple is set to provide clean energy for 3,500 households and reduce electricity costs for the Pioneer School for the Visually Impaired via funding rooftop solar installations. In Nigeria, the tech giant plans to deploy a solar power system to serve a primary healthcare centre in Ondo state and power 200 households in the region.
