Electric vehicle (EV) startup in California Maxeon Solar Technologies Ltd., a Singapore-based manufacturer of solar cells and panels, has been chosen by Aptera Motors Corp. as the cell provider for their solar production program.
According to a release, Aptera has developed “ultra-lightweight and curved solar panels” in partnership with Maxeon, a SunPower Corp. offshoot. According to the manufacturer, its vehicle has over 700 W of integrated solar cells and can go up to 40 miles (64 km) daily on solar power and a 1,000-mile battery range.
Maxeon’s solar cells, according to Aptera, were chosen for their effectiveness, robustness, and lightweight.
The business states that because of their energy, “most drivers will likely never need to charge their Aptera.”
Maxeon acting chief executive Mark Babcock explained that these are the same cells used in the company’s solar panels for homes and businesses. The California outfit says more than 35,000 reservation holders for the Aptera vehicle.
