Aquaterra Energy Boosts Nigeria’s Offshore Oil Production with Innovative System

  • Aquaterra Energy will provide equipment and dedicated offshore engineering support for the multi-year project.
  • The contract includes a seabed-to-surface well intervention system integrating Aquaterra’s TRT tieback tooling.

To enhance oil production efficiency, offshore engineering firm Aquaterra Energy has secured a multi-million-dollar contract with Intrepid Energy Limited (IEL) to deliver a specialised subsea well intervention system for operations in Nigeria’s offshore fields.

The intervention package, designed to optimise production from mature oil wells, marks a critical step in boosting recovery rates and extending the lifecycle of Nigeria’s offshore assets.

The contract includes a seabed-to-surface well intervention system, integrating Aquaterra’s TRT tieback tooling, a lightweight well pressure control system, and an ISO 13628-7 qualified open water intervention riser with an integrated tensioning system. These advanced technologies are tailored to provide efficient bore and annular access while ensuring streamlined operations and safety.

Beyond equipment supply, Aquaterra Energy will provide dedicated offshore engineering support for the multi-year project. A team of engineers will oversee technical implementation, system maintenance, and real-time troubleshooting to ensure operational efficiency.

Andrew McDowell, Delivery Director at Aquaterra Energy, emphasised the project’s significance, stating, “Our intervention system is designed to simplify complex offshore operations, improve efficiency, and enhance safety. By delivering a fully integrated solution, we are helping IEL reduce costs while maximising the production potential of Nigeria’s offshore wells.”

IEL’s CEO, Engr Seun Alonge, also highlighted the partnership’s strategic impact, “With Aquaterra’s technical expertise and our local market knowledge, this collaboration will optimise well intervention operations and unlock greater value from Nigeria’s offshore resources.”

As Nigeria continues to focus on revitalising its oil and gas sector, investments in advanced intervention technology are essential for sustaining production and maximising resource utilisation. This partnership reinforces the role of innovative engineering solutions in enhancing operational efficiency and ensuring long-term energy security in the region.
