Edify Energy, an Australian solar and battery storage developer, has acquired grant funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA). According to the government agency, the fund will be directed to the country’s 25MW/50MWh Darlington Point battery project in New South Wales. The battery project will be a part of a more extensive energy storage project comprising three units near the 275MW Darlington Point Solar Farm. The complex is expected to have a total capacity of 150MW/300MWh.
ARENA has committed to providing AUD6.6 million available for the project. Th government of New South Wales will also provide AUD6.5 million as part of its AUD75 million Emerging Energy Programme. The project will utilise advanced inverter technology, expected to improve the reliability of the electricity network, especially in a weak part of the grid.
ARENA Acting CEO Chris Faris noted that “large scale batteries like Edify’s Darlington Point battery are not only firming our renewable energy but also strengthening the grid, particularly in regional areas, where they will help to unlock more renewable uptake.”
In April, infrastructure investor Federation Asset Management agreed to buy a majority stake in the co-located battery storage projects. All three facilities are planned to live in the summer of 2023/2024.
