Arnergy Secures $18m to Expand Solar Energy Access in Africa

  • Arnergy, led by All On, secured $18 million in funding to expand its solar-plus-storage systems across Africa.
  • The investment will accelerate Arnergy’s growth in commercial, industrial, and residential markets, advancing energy access and Africa’s clean energy transition.

Arnergy, a leading Nigerian provider of distributed renewable energy solutions, has secured $18 million in fresh funding to accelerate the rollout of its solar energy systems across the African continent.

The funding round was led by All On, an off-grid energy impact investor backed by Shell, with support from Breakthrough Energy Ventures, founded by Bill Gates, ElectriFI (Electrification Financing Initiative), and a group of new climate-focused investors.

Founded in 2013 by Femi Adeyemo and Kunle Odebunmi, Arnergy delivers reliable, affordable solar-plus-storage systems to businesses and households underserved by traditional power infrastructure. These systems are designed to ensure consistent electricity supply in regions where frequent blackouts and unreliable access hinder economic development.

Femi Adeyemo, CEO of Anergy, expressed excitement over the milestone, “This new investment is a strong vote of confidence in Arnergy’s mission to democratise energy access across Africa. With these funds, we will expand our footprint, deploy more energy systems, and invest further in technology to enhance customer experience and system efficiency.”

Arnergy intends to use the funding to grow its commercial and industrial (C&I) customer base, expand its residential offerings, and roll out new financing options to make clean energy more accessible for small businesses and underserved communities.

The company’s decentralised model, which is focused on delivering energy where traditional grids fail, resonates deeply in Sub-Saharan Africa, where, according to the International Energy Agency, over 600 million people still lack access to electricity.

Wiebe Boer, CEO of All On, highlighted Arnergy’s unique strengths: “Arnergy’s customer-first approach, technical expertise, and strong execution capabilities uniquely position them to lead Africa’s clean energy transition.”

The funding comes at a pivotal time, with global investments in renewables soaring and demand for clean, resilient energy solutions intensifying across emerging markets. Arnergy’s strategy aligns with broader global and regional efforts to promote inclusive and climate-smart development.

Arnergy stands ready to power thousands more homes, businesses, and institutions, pushing Africa’s clean energy revolution and lighting the path toward a more sustainable, equitable future.
