Aslan Energy Capital Advances Indonesia’s Largest Solar Project

  • Aslan Energy Capital held a tender clarification workshop in Batam for its 1,200 MWp solar project, a key pillar of Indonesia’s first sustainable hydrogen hub.
  • The project will drive environmental restoration, create over 2,000 jobs, and position Batam as a clean energy leader in Southeast Asia.

Aslan Energy Capital has taken a significant step forward in developing Indonesia’s largest planned solar power project by hosting a tender clarification workshop in Batam. The 1,200 MWp utility-scale solar plant will form the backbone of Aslan’s sustainable hydrogen hub initiative, which aims to connect clean energy generation directly with green hydrogen production.

Strategically located in the Riau Islands, the project supports Indonesia’s national renewable energy targets and is expected to establish Batam as a key clean energy hub for Southeast Asia.

As part of Aslan’s ongoing Request for Qualification (RFQ) process, the workshop drew strong interest from top solar developers across Asia. Attendees received comprehensive briefings on technical specifications, commercial terms, and plans to integrate the solar facility with downstream hydrogen infrastructure.

Interactive Q&A sessions encouraged open dialogue on critical issues, including permitting, partnership models, and grid connectivity, underscoring Aslan’s commitment to a transparent and collaborative project development process.

Furthermore, a key feature of the project is its focus on environmental restoration. Aslan plans to build part of the solar farm on post-mining land with depleted topsoil, transforming degraded terrain into productive, clean energy infrastructure. This approach promotes more sustainable land use and contributes to environmental rehabilitation.

The project also promises substantial social and economic impact. Aslan expects to create over 2,000 jobs in the Riau Islands region and plans to implement community-based programmes to support and uplift local populations.

“This solar project will not only be the largest in Indonesia. The project sets a new benchmark for energy innovation by enabling utility-scale solar to power green hydrogen production for export,” said Muthu Chezhian, CEO of Aslan Energy Capital, during his opening address at the workshop. “Indonesia is positioned to lead the region’s transition to clean energy, and this initiative reflects our deep commitment to environmental restoration and inclusive growth.”

Since launching the RFQ process in the fourth quarter of 2024, Aslan has received 31 Expressions of Interest from international renewable energy developers. Of these, 17 have prequalified to proceed to the final bidding stage. This strong response reflects global confidence in the project’s potential and highlights its competitive appeal.

Aslan will continue engaging with shortlisted bidders over the coming months to launch project execution and accelerate Indonesia’s shift towards a more sustainable, low-carbon energy future.
