Asunim Solar and I-kWh will join Egyptian company Elsewedy Electric to develop the power plant.

The Juba 20 MWp solar power project under development will have two new stakeholders. UAE based photovoltaic system supplier Asunim Solar and renewable energy solutions consultancy company I-kWh will join the project implementer Egyptian company Elsewedy Electric in the development of the power plant. The project was awarded to Elsewedy Electric after a call for tender last December by the South Sudanese Ministry of Electricity, Dams, Irrigation and Water Resources. The PV plant will be built on a 25-hectare site and will also be connected to a 35MWh energy storage system.
Asunim Solar will provide engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services. The company’s London based subsidiarity will oversee sizing, verification and supervise the project execution site. I-kWh will provide electricity storage and management systems advisory to the project. The plant is expected to supply over 59,000 households with clean electricity and cut carbon emissions by 10,886.2 tonnes annually.
The project is billed to be completed in 12 months and will require funding of $45 million from the South Sudanese Ministry of Electricity, Dams, Irrigation and Water Resources. The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) will provide loan support for the project.
