A joint venture between Kajima and Low Carbon Alliance called Taiyo Power, and Storage has revealed plans for the construction of up to 44 MW solar park in the Afon Llan Valley in South Wales. The project, dubbed Parc Solar Caenewydd, is expected to generate energy equivalent to the needs of 11,500 homes in the Swansea area.
Other aspects of the project include biodiversity enhancement, continued food production and sheep grazing opportunities. Initial consultation on the proposal with local residents is planned to happen this week.
As a Development of National Significance for Wales, the project will be determined by the Welsh minister through the Planning Inspectorate for Wales. After the public engagement, the developer will make an application to the Planning Inspectorate for Wales alongside consultation with the Swansea planning authority.
Taiyo, set up in 2021, says it is progressing plans for a number of solar and battery sites in the UK.
