- 2GWh of energy storage project approved in New South Wales
- AGL plans to role out 850MW bundle of battery storage by 2024
A proposal by Australian utility, AGL Energy Ltd, has gained the approval of the state Department of Planning and Environment of New South Wales for a 2GWh of an energy storage project. The project, which is to be located at the undisclosed site of the Liddell thermal power plant, forms part of a more significant project that is set to convert the coal-powered plant into an integrated hub producing low-carbon energy for industries.
The Hub, named Hunter Energy Hub, is a product of a partnership between AGL and Fortescue Future Industries, and it is expected to begin operations by April 2023. The Hub will have wind, solar PV, pumped storage, waste-to-energy, and green hydrogen plants, all in the exact location. The generation of clean energy at the Hub is led by Fortescue, AGL, and other parties.
The Liddel battery storage project forms part of AGL plans in the rolling out of an 850 MW bundle of energy storage by the end of 2024. In November, the plan was ignited into action at South Australia’s Torrens Island with a 250 MWh battery project.
