Worley Limited, an Australian engineering professional services company, has commenced work on a Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) for the construction of two major green ammonia projects in cooperation with Morocco’s OCP Group, according to a Worley annual report.
The first project, the multi-billion-euro Tarfaya Power-to-X, will begin in September. It will include a transmission grid, hydrogen and ammonia plants, and storage facilities. A temporary camp for 30,000 workers will be established, eventually expanding into a city for workers and their families. All facilities will be powered by wind and solar energy.
Also, upon completion of the FEED, the project will transition into the engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) phase. It is expected to become operational by 2027, with an initial annual production capacity of one million tonnes of green ammonia, which will increase to three million tonnes by 2032.
For the second ammonia project, namely the Jorf Hydrogen Project (JH2P), the FEED will commence in November. This large-scale green ammonia initiative includes a hydrogen facility and a green ammonia plant with an annual production of 100,000 tonnes. The project will be completed in 2026.
Both projects are being developed by JESA, a joint venture of Worley and OCP Group. OCP Group has a green growth initiative with a global investment of USD 12 billion between 2023 and 2027. Its goal is to develop mining and fertiliser production with complete carbon neutrality by 2040.
The initiative also includes the installation of electrolysers with a combined capacity of approximately 2 GW, which will be powered by renewable energy.
