- Austria will provide subsidies for rooftop solar projects.
- The scheme will cover systems not greater than 50kW.
- Up to €350 could be provided to projects.
The Austrian government has allocated €20 million ($23.4 million) to subsidise residential solar deployments in the country. The funds previously allocated for the year have almost been exhausted, the government says. The funds will support rooftop PV projects that are not over 50kW in size. The Climate and Energy Fund will provide between €150 and €250 per project based on the size of the system. In addition, a €100 bonus per kWh will be awarded to building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) systems.
According to Austrian authorities, the subsidy scheme has boosted solar PV adoption in the country. As a result, Austria’s total installed PV capacity crossed the 2GW last year. In addition, 332MW of new solar capacity added was attributed to the scheme. Furthermore, the Austrian government has set a target of 100 per cent renewable energy by 2030, up from 75 per cent currently under its integrated climate and energy strategy (IKES). As part of this strategy, the country plans to deploy 100,000 rooftop solar systems.
